FAQs
What is a Destination Management Plan?
A Destination Management Plan (DMP) is a plan for pro-active management of a destination over a period of time. It supports collaboration between government, business, industry and community to articulate a shared vision for a destination to drive action to protect its environment, community and cultural values.
A DMP considers the challenges and opportunities specific to the destination and seeks to identify strategic priorities, including the tourism product and infrastructure required to support sustainable visitation.
Why do we need a Destination Management Plan?
The visitor economy is one of the few sectors that Council is directly involved in, through our role in operating the Liverpool Plains Visitor Information Centre; in marketing and promoting our region as desirable destination; and in providing and operating visitor economy infrastructure and services, such as the Quirindi Caravan Park and local freedom camping areas.
A DMP supports Council in adopting a strategic approach to growing our visitor economy and promoting our region. Once developed, the DMP will influence Council’s decision-making across a wide range of areas, including infrastructure and service provision, destination marketing and visitor servicing, business and industry engagement, land use planning and place management, and advocacy and partnership-building.
What is an Economic Development Strategy?
An Economic Development Strategy is a long-term plan that outlines how a region can grow its economy, support local businesses, attract new investment, and create employment opportunities. It sets out a vision and practical actions to strengthen key industries, build infrastructure, and improve the overall economic wellbeing of the community.
Why do we need an Economic Development Strategy?
An Economic Development Strategy provides a clear roadmap for growing and diversifying the local economy. For a regional area like Liverpool Plains Shire, it's essential to harness our strengths—agriculture, small business, tourism, and lifestyle—to create jobs, attract investment, and build economic resilience.
With changing global markets, climate variability, and shifting population trends, a proactive Economic Development Strategy ensures Liverpool Plains Shire can respond to challenges and seize emerging opportunities—while preserving our rural character and improving quality of life for residents.
